On February 4, 1862, Don Facundo Bacardi Masso purchased the first BACARDI rum distillery on El Matadero Street, in the town of Santiago de Cuba, for 3.500 pesos. Here, he pioneered a new way of making rum that would set the standards for future rum production. The light taste and unique balance of Bacardi rum means that it can be mixed with light flavours such as mint and lime without dominating nor disappearing in them.
